Severe drought continues to worsen across Midwest

The U.S. Drought Monitor reports the nation’s drought has actually worsened, with about 65 percent of the lower 48 states in some form of drought. reports the worst drought conditions remain in the heart of the U.S. bread–basket in Nebraska, Kansas and Oklahoma.

In Iowa, the nation’s biggest corn producer, 100 percent of the state is in some form of drought. A meteorologist for the U.S. Department of Agriculture says more than 1/4 of the nation’s corn production has been lost. That’s a total of nearly 4.1 billion bushels.
