At Monday night’s Board of Education meeting, the board received information on a proposed 4 year facilities plan. The plan was introduced by Macomb High School Athletic Director, Dave Bartlett.
The plan includes a fitness center and a new field turf. The fitness center would allow MHS’ athletic program and other co-curricular activities to grow. It would also allow the summer fitness training program to flourish.
As for the turf, it would benefit the soccer, football, softball, baseball, and even the band programs. This plan would add new locker rooms, concessions, lights and would bring in revenue as well. The field turf along with new score boards, logos, goal posts and other necessities will cost around $850,000 to $900,000.
MHS Athletic Director Dave Bartlett said a big reason the field is the best option is because, “the problem is you can’t play soccer and football at the same venue if it’s natural grass because it will get torn up so bad both programs will suffer because you know it takes one day to have a heavy rain and you have a football game on it and the next day you play soccer then it’s just a bad situation. So I’d like to see one facility for both and field turf is the way to go.”
Mr. Bartlett said he would love to see the facility in use by Fall of 2017.
