Frigid Weather to Affect WIU Move-in

Western Illinois University will be reopening the residence halls Sunday at 12 PM for students moving in or moving back in to their rooms to begin the Spring 2016 semester. They will have some difficulty in moving back in as the weather will be causing problems. An arctic cold front will be moving through the Tri-States early Sunday morning and temperatures will take a nose dive for the day Sunday as the winds will be blowing out of the Northwest bringing in that arctic air. Highs on Sunday will struggle to reach the teens. Sunday night will be the coldest night of this arctic blast as the actual air temperature falls below zero to around -3. Wind Chills could reach -15 on Sunday and -20 Sunday night. Monday there will be no school for WIU as it is Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Highs for that day will again struggle to reach the teens. However, lows should stay above zero as it only approaches 3. Once the first day of school arrives Tuesday, the temperatures will start warming up as wind shift out of the South. Snow will be possible with this cold front Saturday night into Sunday, but little to no accumulation is expected. Some areas could see at most a half inch of snow. We’re also tracking snow chances for later this week. Right now it is to soon to tell how much we could see.

Wind Chill Alerts are in effect. Dark Blue are Wind Chill Warnings, Light Blue are Wind Chill Advisories.
