WIU Student Government Association Passes First Bill

sga-symbolWestern Illinois University Student Government Association passed their first bill of the semester last Tuesday.

The bill says, student organizations should have the opportunity to wear Western Illinois University leadership cords at commencement due to the fact student leaders of any non-academic organizations are restricted in wearing cords and stoles representing their organization at graduation.

For an organization to be eligible to wear cords and stoles at commencement they have to be an academic organization and have a minimum grade point average of 3.0.

The writer of the bill SGA president Dovile Svirupskaite says, during commencement, student organizations that are not eligible had no way to celebrate that they were a part of something at Western. She thought this was something that as student government they could take on to find a way for students to be able to represent they were student leaders.

The bill will be looked at by the university’s administration.
