University of Iowa students asked to shelter in place after reports of man with knife [UPDATED]

IOWA CITY, Iowa — Students at the University of Iowa were asked to shelter in place after reports of a man with a knife, Tuesday night.

According to Hawk Alert, the university’s emergency notification system, an older man in a blue shirt and khakis was seen outside the third floor entrance of Catlett Hall carrying a knife.

At 9:47 p.m., Hawk Alert clarified that “the subject was not seen in the building. He was originally seen in the walkway that leads to the third floor entrance of Catlett Residence Hall.”

Police searched the area and determined there was no threat; however a suspect was not located.

There were no injuries from the incident.
