Covering the Storm: the latest as blizzard barrels towards western Illinois

A massive winter storm bringing high winds and heavy snowfall is barreling towards western Illinois.

A BLIZZARD WARNING has been issued for McDonough County and surrounding areas until 6 a.m. Monday.

4-6″+ of snow is possible; however, high winds are also a threat. New models as of 10 a.m. Sunday show wind gusts could be as high as 50 m.p.h.

Winds are expected to create blowing and drifting snow, making post-Thanksgiving travel extremely hazardous and dangerous.

On Saturday, Western Illinois University urged students to use extreme caution as they return from the Thanksgiving break.

As much as a foot of snow may fall in the Quad Cities cancelling some flights departing and arriving at the Quad City International Airport.

Due to the severity of the storm, StormTeam3 has placed the storm at a “Level 5” (dangerous) threat/ storm impact.
