Warming centers open ahead of life-threatening wind chills

WESTERN ILLINOIS (NEWS3) – Many warming centers and shelters have opened across the area ahead of life-threatening wind chills expected Tuesday night into Thursday.

The following are warming centers that will be open during the dangerous wind chills:

KNOX COUNTY

  • Abingdon Community Center (formerly Care Center of Abingdon)

    • Rooms set aside: bring sleeping bag, pillow, towels if possible; no showers, but water available
  • Galesburg Public Safety Building
    • Address: 150 S. Broad St., Galesburgh
    • Hours: Lobby open 24 hours
  • Illinois Department of Human Services
    • Address: 477 E. Main St., Galesburg
    • Hours: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m.
  • Knox County YMCA
    • Address: 1324 W. Carl Sandburg Dr., Galesburg
    • Hours: Open 24 Hours from 5 a.m. Tuesday until 9 p.m. Thursday
  • Oneida Wataga Fire Department
    • Address: 147 S. Depot St, Wataga or 254 N. Sage St., Oneida
