Davenport warns residents of Garden Addition what to do if dike fails

DAVENPORT, Iowa (NEWS3) – Just over 24 hours after the temporary levee in downtown Davenport failed, residents in the city’s Garden Addition are being warned what to do if the dike fails.

The Garden Addition, located on the city’s west side, is protected by a berm that lines Black Hawk Creek. Flooding from both the Mississippi and Black Hawk Creek is a concern.

Davenport Public Works said fliers were handed to residents regarding what to do in the event that the dike fails.

City workers have been monitoring the dike, which appears to be in sound condition.

No residents have been evacuated; however, residents are being asked to remain on heightened alert for river and creek levels.
