ISP to crackdown on violations in McDonough Co. over Labor Day weekend

MCDONOUGH COUNTY, Ill. (NEWS3) — Illinois State Police (ISP) will step up enforcement on drivers breaking the law in McDonough County this Labor Day weekend.

ISP plans to conduct roadside safety checks (RSCs) throughout the holiday weekend.

“The use of RSCs combine a strong sense of public awareness and enforcement in order to save lives of the motoring public,” a statement from ISP read.

Troopers will be looking for drivers with a suspended or revoked driver’s license, transporting open alcohol, driving under the influence, seat belt and child restraint violations, speeding, distracted driving, and other law violations.

“The ISP has zero tolerance for impaired driving in Illinois,” ISP said.

According to ISP, alcohol and drug impairment is a factor in more than 30 percent of all fatal motor vehicle crashes in Illinois, and throughout the U.S. Nearly 10,000 people die each year due to alcohol-impaired driving.
