Macomb honors veterans with brick memorial dedication ceremony

MACOMB, Ill. (NEWS3) — For the last 18 years, Sept. 11 has been a day about remembrance, and the Macomb community did just that Wednesday night.

The Macomb Flags of Love and Memorial Bricks Committee held a dedication ceremony for the new brick path in Chandler Park. Each brick is a memorial dedicated to a local veteran.

Committee member Jim Percy said the brick memorial idea came about when there were no longer enough flags to honor the veterans during the Flags of Love celebration.

“The flags, we would put them up five times a year, but the problem with it was that you couldn’t go find your brother or your loved ones,” said veteran Tom Carper. “This really makes it special. It really memorializes all the people from McDonough County who served in the military.”
