Macomb School District: student arrested for making threat

MACOMB, Ill. (NEWS3) — A student at Macomb High School has been arrested for making a threat of violence toward another student on Tuesday morning, according to Macomb School District 185 superintendent Patrick Twomey.

Twomey sent an email to parents around 9:30 a.m. with preliminary information about the incident and safety of students.

Twomey said law enforcement officials have assured the district that students and staff at the high school are safe and the school day will continue as normal.

“Students and staff safety is our top priority, and we will continue to closely monitor this situation and plan to have police present at school today out of an abundance of caution,” Twomey said.

Twomey said more details of the incident cannot be released due to student privacy laws and the ongoing investigation.

“I want to thank the Macomb Police Department and everyone who had a part in quickly resolving this situation,” Twomey said.
