Rushville Police investigating dozens of car break-ins

RUSHVILLE, Ill. (NEWS3) — The Rushville Police Department is investigating a rash of car break-ins that happened on Saturday.

Rushville Police Chief Rick Wright said 35 cars were broken into early Saturday morning on the east side of town.

Wright said most of the vehicles were unlocked except two.

“This is the first time this has happened in years,” Wright said. “We hardly ever have this.”

According to Wright, cash, change, prescription medication and car charges are among items taken from the vehicles. Wright said multiple car doors were left open.

Wright said officers have stepped up patrols since the string of car break-ins. He said the department is investigating some leads and persons of interests.

No word if police are reviewing any surveillance video.

Police want to remind residents to lock their car doors and house, and do not leave any valuables in vehicles.
