MDH asks public to limit visits due to flu concerns

MACOMB, Ill. (NEWS3) — McDonough District Hospital (MDH) is asking the public to limit its visits to the hospital while a widespread increase in flu activity continues.

MDH officials said lately, several counties in Illinois have experienced high levels of influenza-like illnesses.

Hospital staff recommends visitors under the age of 18 to not visit the hospital unless they are seeking medical care. MDH also recommends only two visitors per patient at a time.

Officials urge the public to not visit if you are ill or have recently been exposed to the flu.

MDH said hospitalized patients ill with influenza should have only support-people visit. Officials said visitors must follow isolation precautions indicated on hospital room signs.

Hospital officials said an influenza-like illness is a fever of 100 degrees or higher, plus cough and/or sore throat.
