Police arrest Iowa man for area burglaries

WARREN COUNTY, Ill. (NEWS3) — Warren County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man who they suspect is responsible for committing burglaries in the area.

Warren County Sheriff Martin Edwards said Tom Harmon, 39, of Burlington, Iowa, was located at a machine shed near Swan Creek, south of Monmouth on Tuesday.

Edwards said deputies noticed a suspicious vehicle near the shed and arrested Harmon after an investigation.

Harmon is being held in the Warren County Jail charged with burglary and possession of burglary tools, with bond set at $20,000

Edwards said Warren County Sheriff’s Office, McDonough County Sheriff’s Office, and the Macomb Police Department led investigative efforts. Edwards said Monmouth, Macomb,  McDonough County, Henderson County,  and Iowa police departments in Lee County, Mt Pleasant, Des Moines County,  and Burlington also were part of the investigation. Police said those counties and municipalities were affected by burglaries committed by Harmon. 

Items believed to have been stolen were recovered but an assessment of the total value has not been completed.
