Police warn WIU campus of job scam

MACOMB, Ill. (NEWS3) — A scam involving emails and phone calls is circulating the Western Illinois University campus.

The Office of Public Safety (OPS) warns the campus community of a job opportunity to make hundreds of dollars.

OPS said the phone call or email tells people about a job with the Department of Disability Resources and Educational Services to make $300-$500 a week.  Police said people should ignore the phishing scam.

OPS Lt. Kalib McGruder said individuals should not provide any personal information to anyone calling or emailing with these “too good to be true offers” and also not click on any links or attempt to reply.

Officials said WIU servers blocked most of the emails, but these emails have found a way back into people’s inboxes.
