Amtrak to suspend Carl Sandburg stop in Macomb

MACOMB, Ill. (NEWS3) – Macomb city officials announced Amtrak will temporarily suspend one of its train stops in downtown Macomb due to low ridership.

Amtrak’s Carl Sandburg train service that provided daily trips from Macomb to Chicago and vice versa will be suspended. The train arrived at 10:50 a.m. from Chicago and departed from Macomb at 6:18 p.m. to Chicago.

This suspension will start Friday, according to the Macomb Area Convention and Visitors Bureau’s Facebook page.

Transportation to Chicago, riding the Illinois Zephyr, will continue its normal schedule running daily at 7 a.m. and returning at 9:20 p.m.

The Carl Sandburg Amtrak suspension is expected to last until May 31.
