SCHUYLER CO., Ill. (NEWS3) — A man was killed and his fiancé was taken to the hospital after an ATV accident Saturday night in Schuyler County.
Schuyler County Sheriff Bill Redshaw said deputies responded to the incident just after 7:30 p.m. Saturday in Browning.
Redshaw said Allision Schenk, of Browning, was driving a Honda ATV eastbound on 7th St. heading home and turned the curve to travel northbound on Bader Road when she lost control while turning.
The sheriff said the ATV overturned and ejected Schenk and the passenger, Joe Cross, 28, of Browning. Police said the ATV came to a rest on the roadway and landed on top of Cross. He was transported to Culbertson Memorial Hospital and pronounced dead at the hospital.
Schenk was taken to the hospital. She was cited for operating an ATV on roadway/reckless operation, aggravated DUI accident ATV involving a death, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and two counts of DUI.
Redshaw told NEWS3, Cross and Schenk were engaged and set to be married Friday.
“It’s definitely an accident, involving a fatality,” Redshaw said. “There’s nothing that we feel is criminal, other than driving a DUI, but there’s nothing above that.”
The investigation is ongoing with the Schuyler County State’s Attorney’s Office.
