Canton man identified in Fulton Co. drowning

FULTON CO. Ill. (NEWS3) — Fulton County authorities released the name of a Canton man who drowned in the Illinois River Tuesday.

Fulton County Coroner Steve Hines said Drake Yerbic, 20, drowned after he swam into the river to retrieve a boat that drifted from the shore. Yerbic and a friend were fishing at the time.

Fulton County Sheriff’s Office said a call came in around 2:00 p.m. Tuesday for a person in the Illinois River north of Liverpool, a village in Fulton County about an hour east of Macomb.

After several area first responders arrived and began searching the water, they found the body of the man located near where he went down in the river, north of Liverpool. Emergency crews found the victim unresponsive on scene.

Hines pronounced the man dead shortly before 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. He then identified the victim as Yerbic Wednesday morning.
