Galesburg woman hospitalized after house fire

GALESBURG, Ill. (NEWS3) — A 70-year-old woman and her dog were trapped inside a home after a fire broke out Sunday morning in Galesburg.

Galesburg Fire Department responded to a structure fire around 11:15 a.m. Sunday in the 1500 block of Willard Street.

Multiple crews were sent to the call and were told a resident and a dog might have still been in the one-story house.

Firefighters arrived and spotted smoke and flames coming from the rear of the home.

Galesburg Fire Chief Randy Hovind said the fire was put out quickly while crews located the woman stuck inside. She was taken to Cottage Hospital, but it is unknown of her injuries. The dog got out of the house safely and was taken to the humane society. Officials said the woman lived alone.

Only the bedroom of the home sustained the most damage. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
