McDonough Co. reports new outbreak at support center

MCDONOUGH CO., Ill. (NEWS3) — McDonough County health officials are now reporting an outbreak at another residential facility and new COVID-19 cases.

McDonough County Health Department (MCHD) said there are two new cases of coronavirus which includes a woman in her 20s and a man in his 20s.

Staff also announced they’re investigating an outbreak at the Mosaic residential facility in Macomb. The center’s website says the facility is a disability and support services organization. Officials said there is one positive case at the facility. MCHD only provided limited information due to federal privacy restrictions about the outbreak at the center.

“The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) defines an outbreak at a Supported Residential facility as one or more positive case(s) along with others that are ill with symptoms,” staff said in a press release.

Officials said protocols from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have been implemented and they are working to identify and actively monitor individuals who were in contact with the residents in an effort to reduce the risk of additional transmission.

This news comes one day after the health department reported an outbreak at The Lamoine Assisted Living and Memory Care center in Macomb. Officials also reported five new cases Tuesday, including a male in his teens, one female in her 20s, one male in his 20s, one female in her 30s and one male in his 50s.

County health staff said at this time 3 of the 14 positive cases in McDonough County have recovered from the disease.

“Recovered is defined by CDC as resolution of fever without fever-reducing medications for 3
days (72 hours), improvement of respiratory symptoms, and at least 7 days have passed since symptoms first appeared,” officials said.
