MACOMB, Ill. (NEWS3) — On Friday, Sept. 18, and Saturday, Sept. 19, the Democratic Women of McDonough County Racial Justice Coalition and the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) welcomed citizens to a Black Lives Matter Pop-Up and Speak-Out Event in Chandler Park, 148 East Carroll Street.

The events featured a drum circle, candlelight vigil, and several speakers. The activities were held to educate those attending on how Black lives are affected in terms of race within the society, according to the hosts.

The ACLU and Democratic Women of McDonough County have held events and protests since the start of summer. The group states that their main focus is to brainstorm solutions to combating systemic racism within our own friends and family as well as helping diversify the neighborhood.

The events were socially distanced and those who attended were advised to wear a mask. For more information on the Democratic Women of McDonough County, go to democratic-women.org.
