MACOMB, Ill. (NEWS3) – The University Union Board (UUB) at WIU is planning events for the next academic year, which includes gaining new student officers and other board members.
Since COVID-19 interrupted the UUB’s normal recruitment process, many offices are available for Fall 2021, including president, many vice presidential offices, and PR liaison. Nick Katz, Director of the Office of Student Engagement, said holding an office will help outside of college.
“Their [a UUB officer’s] resumé will be packed with experiences and things that they can use in the real world, no matter what profession they’re going in,” Katz said.
By planning special events, performances, homecoming and more, being part of the UUB provides students with campus involvement. While participating requires a time investment, Katz said it’s worthwhile.
“It really is a lot of fun, but there is a commitment of time that’s involved,” Katz said.
As WIU returns to the Stage Three Unify Campus Plan, Katz said the UUB wants to host a variety of in-person and virtual events to accommodate groups who are comfortable with one or the other.
“Making all of those groups happy is difficult,” Katz said. “I think they’re going to try their best to provide a variety of experiences to help each of those groups.”
